Is she growing up already?…Maybe so…
For those who have daughters or young ladies in your lives and wonder “Are we there yet?” when it comes to their period, this weeks newsletter is especially for you!
Although everyone progresses at different rates, we all eventually grow into our “own” selves and generally will follow along a certain path through puberty. Let’s talk about 3 signs of puberty and how to help her navigate confidently!
Breast Changes (Budding): This is often noticed first and can be tender for some people, but not everybody. Usually periods can start 1-2years after breast changes begin.
🎉This is a great time to reassure her that while her body is changing it’s also 100% normal.
🎉Set a date to go bra shopping for comfortable and supportive bras that works for her needs when they’re ready.
The Growth Spurt: This sign can come out of nowhere! Now they’re almost or already taller than you and clothes don’t stand a chance because of how fast they’re growing!
🎉Outside of being a baby - puberty is the second fastest time of growth we experience but it is also another healthy sign of puberty.
🎉Focus on their budding personalities, interests, or hobbies - not their bodies or weight changes - will go a long way. Trust, it’s likely already awkward enough for them!
Hair Growth in Pubic/Underarm Areas: This process often starts with thin, fine hairs that continue to grow darker, coarser and thicker - again all normal.
🎉This is the perfect time to start or reinforce how to care for their growing bodies with hygiene tips for their daily routines. 🎉For example: brush teeth✅, wash face✅, wash underarms/genital areas✅, add deodorant✅.
Remember your role as “supporter in chief” is to keep an open line of communication! I’m sure we all had plenty of questions around these times (whether we shared them or not).
